Pioneering to Brazil
May 30, 2009 by El Caballista
Overbrook Farm has entered into an agreement to sell Pioneering, a half-brother to leading sire Storm Cat, to South American interests. The 16-year-old son of Mr. Prospector currently stands for $3,500 at the Young family’s farm near Lexington.
A winner of two races in six starts, Pioneering is out of the Secretariat daughter, Terlingua. The sire of 31 stakes winners to date, the chestnut stallion covered 94 mares during the 2007 Northern Hemisphere breeding season, but his book significantly tailed off in 2008, with only 36 mares reported as being bred.
Barring any unforeseen complications, Pioneering will stand at Haras Castelo in Brazil.
